Blackboard Basic Plugin vs Blackboard Direct

Has anyone recently moved from the basic plugin to direct? We are still on basic 2.7.2 (testing to go to 2.7.3 over the winter break) but currently don't have any plans to go to direct. Turnitin support had previously told me that basic was being discontinued, but they are still releasing updates for it. Anyone make the switch and how did it go?

Kathy Williams I have checked with our Integrations team and we do not have any plans to deprecate BB basic.

Gill Rowell Thanks Gill! That was information I received from Turnitin support in 2016, so things may have changed since then or the person I talked with might have been incorrect.

As I understand it, it will, when the time comes, actually be much simpler to make the transition to the LTI integration from Basic, rather than from Direct. Also, whenever I see posts from Direct users on the Turnitin Jiscmail list, it seems they can't do half the things that Blackboard Basic allows.

We're using Direct, and I agree, from everything I have read, there are certain things that Direct can't do, but Basic can. The main thing that Direct seems to do better, as far as I can see, is the integration with the grade centre - we don't seem to have to do the relink. (I'd have said that the ability to use a BB grading schema in the TII submission inbox is really useful - but that's been removed in a recent building block - but we haven't yet got that building block yet)
