Slow scrolling

TurnItIn claims to have fixed the slow scrolling in the Feedback Studio, but it's still awful. Any suggestions?

  • Hi  Andrew , thanks for asking this question.

It sounds like something we're still investigating. Could you write tiisupport@turnitin.com with " Feedback studio freezes when instructor adds or move bubble comments". (I know that doesn't sound like the exact same issue, but I think it's coming from the same root issue.) When you write Support, we'll have one more report which increases the chances that this will get prioritized.

Alyssa Vigil Andrew Morris I reported this slow scrolling problem right after Turnitin did an update in March.  It's still not fixed but it is being investigated.  When I use Feedback Studio in Safari, it works fine, but in Chrome, which is the environment that I work in using Canvas, it's impossible to use and unreasonably extends time for student feedback. Hopefully a solution will be found soon.

    • Lisa Wathen I must add that 'latency' in Chrome is shockingly bad, even on cable internet  I have been using Chrome for Turnitin (on a Mac) for a couple of years with no problem (one would hope so, given Chrome's current status as 'the most used browser').  It was fine up until March. This round of marking through April and May has taken me at least twice as long.  I am very disappointed that Turnitin a) doesn't seem to test and effectively tweak their product on and for the most common browser and (more importantly) b) don't give out any information to users that there are issues with Chrome.  All Turnitin needs on their team is one person to try an update on various browsers and systems and see if there are issues, then give the users recommended browsers to use.  Had I known Chrome was a problem for the new Turnitin, I would have changed browsers to suit.  For a Gold Standard international system, Turnitin should have much better product quality control or at least communication.   I hope they are listening. As it is institutions rather than users (teachers and students) that choose software, and Turnitin has such a dominating presence in the market, one might understand complacency in reacting to user needs.  Right now, as consumers we have no choice.  Having said that, if Turnitin cannot provide reliable service and support, when a cheaper or free (even if inferior) alternative comes along, users and institutions will feel little loyalty for Turnitin.

  • Good morning,

Has anyone found the fix to the slow scrolling (functioning, really) in the feedback studio?

  • The fix for slow scrolling-Turn off "Use hardware acceleration when available" in settings for Chrome.

  • Agreed- The slow scrolling is disorienting and very time consuming.

    • Colleen Lyons Hi Colleen, are you using Chrome? Did you happen to see  Lisa Wathen 's response above? Let us know if that doesn't work for you.

    • Alyssa Vigil Adjusting that setting in Chrome worked briefly. The issue popped up again. Is there a diagnostic that can we run?

Thank you. I also unchecked high resolution and that seemed to help.

    • Patrick McNulty One more trick: try toggling the resolution of the page. Here's a link to our release notes , outlining the new functionality. Let us know if this helps.

  • I think it's pretty sad that we have to turn the High Resolution setting "off" for this to work properly. On a Mac (a brand new Macbook Pro), there shouldn't be any reason on any browser that this app runs so sluggish.

    • Gregory Richard Thanks for this feedback-- we're always grateful for educator and student input on how to make our tools more efficient. If there's a way to work around this, I bet our team in support knows-- feel free to reach out to them directly at tiisupport@turnitin.com and perhaps they can offer some solutions!
