Students prefer margin comments rather than closed bubble

My students really dislike the fact that they cannot see their comments unless they click on the bubbles. They would prefer a comment system like that on Microsoft Word or Google Drive. Has Turnitin ever considered this? Has anyone ever seen a discussion of it anywhere?

Gina Egan I will pass your feedback on to the Dev team. Do other forum members have a view on this?

Gill Rowell My students would also greatly prefer this format. I suspect few students actually review my in-text comments because of this extra step.

In regards to the bubbles, my students have to be reminded about clicking on it in order to see it.

My students have difficulty toggling between screens to see their document and then the turnitin document.  So I do have a work-around - but it is not environmentally friendly:

I print the papers for each of my students, which then prints all the comments and bubbles.  The good part is that the program numbers the pages, and then students take the pages that have the feedback and lay it side by side with the marked up pages.  I have taught my students to take a pen and check off what they have corrected.  We have 40 minute periods, so often it is difficult for students to be instructed, and revise all in one period.  Most of my students have learning disabilities, so it is easy for them to get lost as to where they are in the revision process.  (In Google docs, then can "resolve" the comment as they move through revision.)  In addition, we have a "workshop format" for our English classes, so my mini-lessons are formed around difficulties I see in the papers in small groups.  Plus my students have partners they can go to for assistance as well.  My motto is "see 3 then me" meaning talk to three other students (could be their writing group) and then I can help with deciphering the feedback.

What I have learned though is for the students to double or triple space their papers, because many of my students can get confused about which comment goes with which bubble.  If the paper is single spaced, it can get frustrating to the point where the student can't or doesn't see all of the necessary feedback.  This can then cause them to revise double the number of times that others do, just because they cannot determine which comment or revision goes with which idea.

I would appreciate the turnitin development team reviewing this situation as well.
