Class End Date of LTI-created classes should be populated from the LMS not arbitrarily 12-months after creation of the first assignment

Our school uses LTI integration with Schoology. I ran into an issue this year where we ran out of available accounts and it is only October. This didn't make sense since it should only populate users from Schoology.

After investigating I saw that there are many classes still active from last semester, each with seemingly arbitrary end dates. Because teachers use Turnitin from within Schoology only, it isn't really practical to ask them to set an expiration date for the class. So I am now going through the website and manually changing each of these courses to expire tomorrow.

My feature request is for LTI-created classes to populate the class end date from the LMS. This would result in much cleaner data and less confusion and manual labor.

Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback on the new Feedback Studio experience re: the TLI integration with Schoology. (I'm tagging my colleague,  who might even want to pop a response below!)

We’ve documented your feedback and will be sharing it with our product team for review. Please keep the suggestions coming. They really help us make the experience better for both educators and students.

For us, that wouldn't work, as students typically have access to learning resources until they leave, so, the1 year works well in our case - it means students can go back & see older work, but, they can't upload to that older area.

Perhaps the best option would be for the admin to set up the defaults e.g.

    • default to x months
    • default to course open / close dates if available when class is created.
    • Close when course is closed (if courses are closed manually at different times - that's possible in Blackboard, but may not be in other tools.

Within each of those, administrators could decide whether instructors can override, or if only Turnitin Admins can if needed.
