I'm curious about this.  We use the Framework in Canvas but I didn't think we could update to LTI 1.3 and still utilize it.  Can you run them concurrently?  Do you have any documentation I could review as well?

    Thanks!

      Hi Justin!

Yes, you can enable Turnitin's LTI 1.3 alongside the Plagiarism Framework (PF) in Canvas. The two integrations can run concurrently without interfering with each other. Please find the guides for configuring LTI 1.3 in Canvas (depending on the type of the Canvas environment your institution is using) here:

Thanks Kat.  Could you point me to some reading that explains what functionality we would get by doing this?  What's missing in the framework that would be in the LTI.  What does it look like for our instructors if we have the two running concurrently?  And are there any webinars on the topic?  Sorry for all the questions.  Just trying to determine if this would be useful at our college.

      Hi  !

This comparison chart shows the differences between LTI 1.3, LTI 1.1 and Plagiarism Framework.

Between LTI 1.3 and Plagiarism Framework, there are a few features which are mutually exclusive.

One of the main things that is not available in LTI 1.3 is the fact that the submissions are not available in Canvas SpeedGrader. If your instructors want to use SpeedGrader, then they have to create the assignment using Plagiarism Framework. (Which is why both these integrations should be enabled in your Canvas instance.)

But all the latest and greatest features are in LTI 1.3. Plagiarism Framework is frozen in time.

We are currently on LTI 1.1, so in order to have some of the functionality our instructors are used to, we are going to have to use enable LTI 1.3 and Plagiarism Framework integrations.

And instructors will have to choose one or the other when setting up their assignments.

Thanks Kenneth.  This is really helpful.  Does the grading from LTI 1.3 in Turnitin pass back to the assignment/gradebook then since it doesn't use SpeedGrader?
