Instructors: How are you guiding your students to use AI ethically?
AI-powered tools are quickly becoming copilots in many students’ writing and learning, often without clear guidance from instructors.
In our blog, “Academic Integrity Today: Teaching Students to Thrive in the Age of AI,” our team of educators explores the root causes of misconduct and misuse, and how a culture of academic integrity can be fostered through proactive instruction.
That’s where Turnitin Clarity comes in. It helps educators thoughtfully integrate AI assistance into the classroom, empowering students to use AI responsibly and in alignment with institutional guidelines.
Check out Clarity’s AI assistant in action! (Please note: the AI assistant is currently available in English only.)
What support or resources would help you feel more confident guiding students in responsible AI use?

- As an instructor, I guide my students to use AI ethically by emphasizing principles of responsibility, transparency, and critical thinking. I incorporate discussions on data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the ethical implications of AI-driven decisions into the curriculum. Students are encouraged to evaluate sources of information, respect intellectual property, and use AI tools to support rather than replace their own analytical thinking. We also explore real-world case studies to help them understand both the benefits and potential harms of AI in professional contexts. Above all, I stress the importance of using AI in ways that uphold academic integrity, human dignity, and social justice.
