I have had an experience where after checking for plaguarism in a student's work and a very high percentage comes up, the work is resubmitted within days with a more than 50% reduction. This prompted me to Google and I realised that students have ways of beating the system by replacing some characters in their work.

Are there ways in which instructors can detect such tricks and counter them?
