Turnitin Clarity Update: AI Detection for Pasted Text and UK English Support

We’re excited to share an update to Turnitin Clarity! Here’s what you need to know:

AI Writing Detection

To help instructors understand how students may have used AI writing tools in their writing process, the Writing Report now includes results for Turnitin's AI writing detection in a pasted text card. The pasted text card will show when our model predicts a block of pasted text greater than 300 words was likely written or altered by AI.*

The pasted text card now shows:

  • The overall percentage of the text estimated as likely originating from generative AI or likely AI-generated, which may have further been bypassed or paraphrased.
  • The percentage breakdown of likely AI-generated, likely AI-bypassed, and likely AI-paraphrased text.
  • Highlights of the text estimated as likely originating from generative AI or likely AI-generated, which may have further been bypassed or paraphrased.

The complete AI Writing Report will still be available for the entire submission in the “AI Writing” tab.

*When both Turnitin Clarity and Originality are licensed, and AI writing detection is enabled. AI writing detection is only available for English, Spanish, and Japanese submissions. AI paraphrase and bypasser detection are only available for English submissions.

UK English

Students may now choose between US and UK English. The choice applies to all AI-powered writing assistant tools that may have been enabled by their instructor, including:

  • Spelling and grammar check
  • AI chat
  • Citation assistance
*AI assistant tools are only supported in English; if the LMS language is not supported, the selector will default to US English, but can be changed to UK English. If you want to learn more about the latest Turnitin product updates and releases, visit this page.
