Rubrics: Variable Rating Scales

A professor of ours encountered an issue where one rubric criterion had five rating levels while another had three. At this time, Clarity does not appear to allow different numbers of rating levels across criteria within the same rubric. (see below)

A workaround we have attempted includes adding zero-point and N/A options; however, these do not display at the end of the rating scale. Instead, they appear mixed among the other rating options (for example, “Proficient” and “Minimal” both appear alongside 0-point/N/A options). Because of this, our professor ultimately needed to revise her rubric so that every criterion included five rating levels.

Since this professor is only testing Clarity this semester, the adjustment for this rubric created additional work. We were wondering if TurnItIn could allow more flexibility in rubric design, particularly the ability to vary rating scales by criterion.
