Turnitin’s AI writing detection capabilities : paraphrasing tools vs Gen AI tools
Is Turnitin’s AI writing detection capabilities able to distinguish between grammar checking/paraphrasing tools like Grammarly/Quillbot vs other Gen AI tools like ChatGPT that can be used to generate ideas and content.
Or does it just flag out whatever was suspected to be generated by AI regardless of the purpose of the tool used.

I've heard unsubstantiated reports of Grammarly and Quillbot output being mis-detected. It's never been clear whether they mean the free version of Grammarly or the tools that offer to rewrite the student's work which are more of a grey area in terms of our academic misconduct regulations.
I've also heard a claim that a student wrote their draft in their native language and used Google Translate to produce the English version they submitted.

Steve Bentley is correct that there are different versions of Grammarly, one of which offers generative AI so it is important to investigate further where a student claims that they have used Grammarly in their assessed work.
