Where are the options that check for style, grammar, etc.?

As I was putting my course together, I wanted to check off the boxes that provide a report regarding writing style, grammar, etc.  This feature was valuable and saved a ton of time when grading. Maybe it's me, but the option for that particular report does not show up when creating an essay assignment like it has in the past.

It's not you!  I just collected over 100 essays.  I've always counted on the grammar check feature so I could focus on the structure and content of the essay.  Now I have to check all the little grammar mistakes because turnitin decided to remove the grammar check feature.  This program no longer supports speed and efficiency in my grading.

That is horrible news, especially with midterms, ugh!!! I am sure we are not the only teachers who depended on that feature. Now I find myself doing a cut and paste and loading the document onto another site to check for errors and AI-generated work. What's up with Turnitin? Was there some sort of vote?

I read that it was because they wanted to focus on their AI detection.  The ETS feature was an outside feature they chose not to renew.  So disappointing.  As an English teacher, I need a platform that provides both resources for my own speed and efficiency.  Good luck with midterms!

Believe us,  and  , when we say we are sad about ETS, too!

We were notified by Educational Testing Services (ETS) that they will no longer be supporting their e-rater grammar service in 2025. As a result, we had to remove the e-rater from all of our products as of December 31, 2024.

In the absence of grammar checking provided via e-rater, we recommend giving Turnitin Draft Coach a try to provide grammar checks for students while drafting in Microsoft Word on the Web or Google Docs.

We apologize for any inconvenience this discontinuation of the e-rater service may have caused. Please reach out to your account manager if you have additional questions or concerns.  And as Patricia said, good luck with midterms!

Is Turnitin Draft Coach included with a Turnitin.com subscription? I've not been able to find any definitive details about how to install it for student use, so I'm assuming it's a separate service. If so, it's incredibly frustrating that a helpful feature like the ETS grammar checker that SO many educators relied on is no longer available. There is more to revising student writing than checking for AI use. It's very disappointing that an alternative grammar tool was not added.

Audrey, thank you very much for taking the time to answer. I'm going to check out the draft coach option.

Hi! Turnitin Draft Coach is available as an add-on for Google Docs and Microsoft Word online. To get started, your institution’s Turnitin administrator will need to set it up, and access depends on your school’s license.
