Add class

Add class button no longer shows up on my home page. Has anybody had this experience? If yes, what did you do to rectify it?

If an instructor user has not accessed Turnitin within the previous 6-month period, for security and data privacy purposes, the password will expire, and the instructor users' access to the institution's Turnitin account(s) will become locked.

To regain access the Instructor user will need to reset their password and the Administrator of the account(s) will need to manually unlock the instructor via the instructor management list.

Upon successful login, if access to the institution's Turnitin account(s) has not been manually unlocked the instructor may see the following:

    • For instructors with active classes 'You have been locked out of the account, please contact your account administrator'.
    • For instructors with no active classes, the above message will not be displayed, however, the ‘Add Class’ button will not be available whilst the account remains locked.

Please note: Administrators also have the ability to manually lock an instructor's access to the account and the same notifications will be displayed.

If your account administrator at your institution is unable to assist, please reach out to our support team directly via our Help Center.

I had this problem a few days ago, which took me a while to sort out since nobody in my university's usual suspects could provide me with a solution (in fact all solutions took me to the same guideline on how to set up a class). I finally found a helping hand in my university's e-learning who told me that the account was inactivated due to a period of inactivity. Since I use Turnitin to set up individual classesfor my PhD students to check their thesis, is pretty obvious that I do not access Turnitin every day and there will be periods of inactivity.

I am not sure if the zeal to cut access to professor/instructors from Turnitin after a "period of inactivity" is something that Turnitin does or it is unique to my university. None of the two possibilities, especially the latter, would surprise me.

To come back to your problem, the most expedite way to sort it out would be to contact e-learning in your university (or an equivalent service) and ask them to check if you account can be activated. Then, clear the cache in your browser, exit the browser, re-start turnitin, and may the force be with you.

Thank you so much. I did exactly as you suggested and it worked. Thanks a billion.
