Error submitting to the similarity detection service

I have faculty who are reporting issues in Canvas. In the gradebook, some student submissions are coming back with "there was an error submitting to the similarity detection service. Please try resubmitting the file before contacting support." Sometimes clicking the resubmit button doesn't do anything, sometimes it does start to process and completes the report for the submission, and other times it stays stuck on the processing status. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
