I’m sure many of you will have noticed the new Flags Insight Panel in Turnitin Originality. This draws attention to any text manipulations within a students’ work, such as replaced and hidden characters. These text manipulations are unlikely to be accidental and may therefore point to deliberate plagiarism, and may indicate that a student is struggling and needs additional guidance.

What evidence of potentially deliberate attempts to plagiarise do you see? How do you determine what is intentional and unintentional misconduct, and are some cases more clear-cut than others? Do your guidelines and penalties for misconduct take into account the question of intent?
