10 things you need to know about Turnitin Feedback Studio in Google Classroom (from the official FAQ)

Have questions about using Turnitin with Google Classroom? Here’s a quick breakdown of how it works for students, instructors, and admins, from submissions to grading and setup.
Students
1. How do students submit work?
Students must select the Turnitin attachment inside the Google Classroom assignment. This launches the Turnitin submission workflow, where they can upload and submit their work for Turnitin processing.
2. Can students upload directly to the normal Google Classroom assignment instead?
Students can still upload files to the native Google Classroom submission area, but Turnitin cannot process files submitted there. For similarity checking, AI writing detection, and Turnitin grading and feedback workflows, students must submit through the Turnitin attachment.
3. Can students submit from Google Drive?
Yes. In the Turnitin submission workflow, students can upload work using the usual submission methods, including selecting files from Google Drive.
4. Can students use Turnitin attachments on mobile devices?
Turnitin workflows are supported on tablet devices, but are not fully supported on small-screen mobile phones.
Instructors
5. Do instructors need to create new classes in Google Classroom?
No. Instructors can use the integration in their existing Google Classroom classes. The setup does not require them to create new classes.
6. If an instructor grades in Turnitin, does the grade pass back to Google Classroom?
Yes. When a grade is entered in Turnitin, it is sent back to Google Classroom as a draft grade. There may be a short delay before the updated grade appears.
7. Can instructors use existing Turnitin rubrics in the integration?
Yes. Once the integration is linked to the correct Turnitin sub-account, instructors can use existing Turnitin rubrics associated with that organization.
8. Will instructors still need to use the Turnitin website?
No, not for normal assignment workflows. Instructors access the Turnitin inbox and grading experience by selecting the Turnitin attachment in Google Classroom. Some parts may open in a new tab, but the experience begins in Google Classroom.
9. Can instructors attach Turnitin assignments on mobile devices?
No. Google Classroom add-ons are not supported when creating or attaching assignments on mobile devices.
Admins
10. Can different schools within a district use different Turnitin sub-accounts?
Yes, in some cases. Because the Turnitin add-on is deployed at the Google Workspace domain level, each unique domain or subdomain can be deployed to its own Turnitin sub-account.
