It’s live: AI writing detection for Arabic submissions

We’re happy to announce the release of our AI writing detection capabilities in Arabic to help educators uphold academic integrity by offering insights for Arabic language submissions.

Who has access:

  • Existing customers who license Turnitin Originality and have AI writing detection enabled on their account
  • iThenticate 2.0 customers who license the AI writing detection add on
  • Only instructors and administrators will be able to see the indicator and the report.

How it works:

  • Arabic detection runs alongside our existing English, Spanish, and Japanese detectors
  • The appropriate model processes each submission based on its language
  • Papers submitted in an unsupported language will not be processed for AI writing detection
  • Our Arabic model is built to distinguish AI-written from human-written academic content, drawing on twenty-five years of experience safeguarding academic integrity

What this means for instructors and admins:

  • Built to identify likely AI-generated text while keeping a low false positive rate. You get a reliable signal you can trust as a starting point for upholding academic integrity.
  • Built into your existing similarity report workflow, and integrated with your LMS. You can check student papers for AI writing without changing the way you already work.
  • Simple and comprehensible reporting. An overall percentage of the text that may be AI-generated, and highlighted segments so you can review flagged passages in context.
