Urgent Support Needed – Turnitin Similarity Index Issue
Subject:
I am facing a critical issue with my Turnitin Scholar portal. Each time I check for similarity on the first chapter of my thesis, Turnitin states that the document has been "submitted to Gitam University" multiple times—currently 22 times. My supervisor and I believe this is a bug, as we have only uploaded the file 3 to 4 times for similarity checks.
Approximately a year and a half ago, I had successfully reduced the similarity index to below 9%. However, last week, the similarity index unexpectedly spiked to 77%, forcing me to rewrite the entire chapter. Despite ensuring that the files were deleted immediately after each check and were never stored in Turnitin, the issue persists.
We have verified at the university level, and no files are present in the repository or my supervisor’s system. This anomaly is preventing me from proceeding with further similarity checks, as I fear it may continue to inflate the submission count incorrectly. Given that I am nearing my thesis submission deadline, I urgently need this issue resolved.
Kindly investigate and provide a solution at the earliest. Please let me know if you require any additional details.
Looking forward to your prompt response.

Hi Geetha, thanks for reaching out and sharing the details of your situation— I can understand how frustrating this must be, especially with your thesis deadline approaching.
I’d recommend connecting directly with Turnitin Support to investigate further. They’ll be able to check whether there’s an issue with how submissions are being recorded on the system. - Kat, Turntin Team
