My self-intro and question

I am a senior professor at a national university in Taiwan.

Because I was asked to be a referee for a Violation of Academic Ethics case, I hope your insight can help me.

The disputed article used Gadamer's Truth and Method, a hermeneutic authority book, without citation.

Since the book Truth and Method was published long before Turnitin was created, is its text available online for cross examination?

Thanks!

    Hello Chung-yi!

Nice to meet you, and welcome to the Turnitin Educator Network! (TEN)

We'd like to make sure we fully understand your question so we can provide a helpful response. When you refer to Truth and Method not being available online, are you asking whether:

    1. Turnitin is capable of detecting uncredited use of this text even if it's not freely accessible on the internet?

    2. Or are you specifically looking for a way to verify whether Truth and Method is part of Turnitin’s content database for cross-referencing purposes?

Thanks for the response! My inquiry is more about  1. But I was also wondering about those famous hi-cited books published long before Turnitin system appeared. How could I know they were already digitalized as content database? :)

      Hello Chung-yi,

We checked in with our team, and we can confirm that Truth and Method is indexed in Turnitin’s internet database. This means that uncredited use of content from that book can be detected by our system.

Turnitin’s content database goes beyond what’s currently available online. It also includes a wide range of academic publications and texts, even those published long before Turnitin was created.

Hope this helps clarify things! Let us know if you have any other questions! We’re happy to keep the conversation going.

      - Kat. Turnitin Team
