What a week: Reflections from #AskTurnitin
Hi everyone,
When we kicked off this week, we shared a quote from an educator that stuck with me: "I am losing confidence in my judgment every day..."
As a former educator, I've felt a version of that too: the worry that I was missing something or that everyone else had it all figured out. After reading your comments this week, I'm pretty confident that no one has it all figured out, and that's okay. Instead, I saw a (digital) room full of educators who care deeply, think carefully, and trust their students (and each other) enough to be honest about what's hard.
Here are a few moments from the week that stayed with me:
- Where AI belongs in assignments: shared a brand new assignment type in development called AI Activity, and I'm SO excited to see that come to fruition.
- Seeing the process, not just the product: reminded us that feedback while students write, like a question or nudge on a single sentence in a rough draft, can matter as much as feedback on the finished piece, if not more. Amy, our product team heard you loud and clear!
- Managing it all at scale: , a university librarian who supports students through theses and research projects, asked something many of you probably hear too: why is the Similarity Report there when the AI Writing Report isn't? The short answer is that students can't currently see the AI report, but instructors can. If instructors can't see it either, check whether AI detection is turned on and whether the submission meets the detector's requirements. Thanks, for jumping in!
If I had to sum up the week in one idea, it would be this: AI hasn't replaced your judgment. It has made your relationships with students matter even more. The conversations you're having, the expectations you're setting, and the questions you're asking are the work, and you're doing it well.
Before you go, drop one idea you're taking back to your classroom in the comments. It doesn't have to be big. Small shifts count!

Thank you for your honesty, your generosity, and every "I don't know" you shared this week. This community is better because you showed up for it.
Warmly,
