Advice required - moving from 1.1 to 1.3
At Newcastle University we are currently considering updating to LTI 1.3 for Turnitin. We have a few questions for any 1.3 users if you can share your experience.
- How do you set up your assignments with LTI 1.3? Is anyone still using the external tool option rather than the three dots?
- What was your experience of upgrading to LTI 1.3?
- Do you have any lessons learnt?
- One of our concerns is whether the canvas ‘edit assignment’ button disappears once set up? We've noticed this in our testing.
- Do you still have 1.1. attached to access archive assignments?
Any guidance from your experience of moving over would be appreciated.

I can share what I know; The Direct v2 Plugin creates a new activity in Moodle called Turnitin assignment2. Our instructors use this to have students submit papers, so it replaces or acts as an alternative to assignment activity. The LTI API, when enabled, creates Turnitin Embedded options in the Forum, Activities, Quiz, and Assignment activities. When submissions are entered, the turnit-in features like feedbackstudio are accessible. The External LTI 1.3 tool is an LTI integration and is launched into a course via the external tool activity. We are currently attempting to get this feature working properly we are running moodle version 4.1.3. Hope this helps
