Locusts (Schistocerca gregaria (Orthoptera: Acrididae)

ØHas wider host range and voracious

Øoccurs mostly in the eastern drier areas of the continent.

Ølife cycle: laid eggs in batches of 60 to 150  at depth of 8 to 14 cm in moist soil

ØHave two phases of nymphs:

 1. solitary-inactive, scattered and have green colour like common grasshopper  and

 2. gregarious phase- very active, black colour and move in large numbers

Management

ØBeaten to deaths, trenches and polytrin, C220 ULV (profenofos + cypermethrin).
