Clarity Features in Word/Google Docs
Hi,
- This idea relates to Turnitin Clarity.
- A Turnitin extension that enables some Clarity features in Microsoft Word and Google Docs (and possibly other word processors). At the very least, it would track the student's writing process in Word or Docs like normal Clarity does. Products like Draftback, WritingTrace, and Grammarly Authorship already do similar things, so it should be feasible. Ideally, it would also sync somehow with Turnitin within the LMS so that the student could go back and forth between editing in both places.
- There are so many different software programs that student's at my institution have to navigate, and I don't think my school is unique in that. There's the LMS, the SIS, proctoring software, Turnitin, student messaging system, etc. I could see my institution considering Turnitin Clarity, but a sticking point would be potential frustration for students. I think that a lot of our students would not respond well to giving up Word/Docs and having to learn yet another piece of software (Clarity), even though it can be integrated within the LMS.
- That's why I think a Clarity browser extension or some other sort of extension would be so helpful. That way, students wouldn't have to give up their favorite word processor and they'd be more likely actually to use Clarity. Even if it's not feasible to include the Clarity AI chat with the extension, it could still track the writing process, and this would serve as a way to encourage students to use Clarity within the LMS while still allowing them to use Word/Docs.
Thank you,
Tim
