94% of students reported using generative AI. What does this mean for learning integrity?

According to a 2026 Higher Education Policy Institute survey, 94% of students reported using generative AI to help with assessed work. So the question isn't whether AI is used by students, it's what are we actually doing about it?
What gives me hope is that many educators have moved past the detection conversation. They are now asking how and when in the writing process AI was used, not just whether it was. That's a meaningful shift.
The gaps are real. Educators often lack the time to provide the level of feedback students need to meaningfully improve, and students don’t always have the opportunity to seek it out. We’re at a moment where educators need clearer guidance, students need greater transparency, and institutions need to act quickly—establishing clear policies, setting expectations for AI use, and equipping both educators and students with the support to navigate these changes in practice.
The Learning Integrity Insights Report Q1 2026 is now available. Take a look and share your perspective—what resonates, what feels missing, and what questions are still on your mind.
