Change is coming to our most-referenced resource page!
Usually my Wednesday posts introduce a new resource or remind you of others, but this week I'm here to let you know that the Teaching and Learning Innovation team's webpage is seeing some major changes: If you haven't been lately, come visit the newly named Learning integrity in the age of AI page; formerly known as Academic integrity in the age of AI.
More than just a name change, the changes that have been made are in recognition that many educators have moved past detection to learning how to use AI tools to support learning. What's the difference? Academic integrity still appears in a few titles; this will signal to you that this is about how AI may be used within an institution. Academic integrity is still important, but you should know that this refers to guardrails and policies, just as it always has.
Learning integrity refers to the activities and routines and tools that students use to support their learning, originality, and critical thinking. The focus here is responsible use of AI to complete assignments when permitted, not out-sourcing the thinking. Learning integrity is how those guardrails and policies look when applied appropriately. It literally means that using AI tools doesn't replace the thinking and learning when used appropriately.
What does this mean to you?
Some resources have been updated more than others. Here's where you'll see the main changes:
- Resource name changes where applicable (for example, the AI misuse rubric --> Learning integrity rubric) -- most have stayed the same
- Text changes on the resource descriptions -- sometimes it's simply a wording shift, but since the concept of learning integrity is different, appropriate changes have been made
- New urls where appropriate - don't worry, redirects are in place so if you have something bookmarked, it will take you to the same page/resource, even if it has a different name!
- Updates to resources -- this applies to almost all of them (and the very few it doesn't, it will soon!)
- Change of focus from academic --> learning integrity and appropriate messaging
- Removal of outdated content/features
- Inclusion of new features/products as appropriate
Once you've had time to take a look, let us know your favorites: updates, resources, etc.
